Convert your sheet music to dark mode

Reading sheet music on screen at night, or on a dark stage, with the traditional white background is exhausting for your eyes. Dark Score intelligently inverts the colors of your PDFs and images: it removes scan noise, thickens staff lines, and applies the color scheme you prefer.

Who is it for?

Night owls

Practice late without eye strain. The blue light filter preset is designed for long sessions in low light.

Stage performers

A bright white screen in a dark theater distracts the audience and ruins your night vision. The dark stage preset gives you AMOLED black with high contrast notation.

Orchestra pit musicians

Pit musicians need to read music under dim stand lights. The warm amber preset reduces glare while keeping notation readable.

Teachers and students

Preparing materials for screen-based lessons? Convert handouts to dark mode so students can read comfortably on any device.

Custom needs

Choose your own background and notation colors, adjust contrast and brightness, and thicken thin lines from old scans. Make your scores look exactly how you want.

Your scores never leave your device

We understand your scores are important to you. That is why this site never copies or sends your files to any external server: all processing happens directly in your browser. The only things that leave your device are anonymous, cookieless usage statistics and crash reports, never your files or their contents.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dark Score free?
Yes. It is free and open source (MIT), with no account and no limits. If it helps you, you can support it on Ko-fi.
Are my scores uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed inside your browser using Web Workers and never reach a server. The app keeps working offline once loaded. We only collect anonymous, cookieless usage statistics (which pages are visited, which presets are used) and crash reports.
Which files can I convert?
PDF (including multi-page), PNG and JPG, up to 50 MB each. You can drop several files at once and export them merged or separately.
Does it work with scanned or photographed scores?
Yes. The scan cleaning control removes yellowed paper, shadows and noise, and line thickening restores staff lines that get lost when inverting.
Can I read the result in forScore, GoodReader or on a tablet?
Yes. The export is a regular PDF or PNG with the dark colors baked in, so it looks the same in any reader and on any device.
Why not just invert colors in my PDF reader?
A plain inversion turns scan noise into white blotches, thins the lines and gives a grey, muddy result. Dark Score cleans the page, thickens lines and maps the colors to palettes designed for reading in the dark.
